What the Sea Brings Ashore

The production is inspired by the tale “The Little Mermaid” by H. CH. Andersen. It asks questions like why is it so difficult to have an honest relationship today and why commitment is sometimes so frightening for people. The work reflects on how today's relationships are fragile, fluid or unstable. Presence is reflected into many forms of media, which promise constant connection, however we become more and more detached from each other, our relatives and from our surroundings. The age of strong individuals in society claims more space for itself. The society is crooked by the superficial character of Mammon, world of money, artificial fame, catwalk, expensive clothes and superficial relationships, into which swims an innocent soul like a fish into a net.

The production uses excerpts from poetry collections by. Štrpka, J. Motulko, F. Pessoa.

It uses elements of theatre, new circus, dance in combination with visual theatre, lighting design, accompanied by live music.

„Prebudíš sa a hneď sa musíš znova prebudiť

do prízraku nahej premeny. Čosi je vnútri. Nehybné.

Ústa sa chvejú na pokraji

(nevyrieknuteľných) slov.“

Ivan Štrpka
